Walt Disney World Railroad’s Lilly Belle

The Walt Disney World Railroad’s Lilly Belle is a 2-6-0 “Mogul” type steam locomotive built in 1928 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works for the United Railways of Yucatan. Disney purchased it in 1969 and now operates with the Walt Disney World Railroad in Florida. The locomotive is named after Walt Disney’s wife, Lillian Disney, and it shares its name with a miniature locomotive that ran in Disney’s backyard, the Carolwood Pacific Railroad, and a parlor car on the Disneyland Railroad in California. It is a testament to Walt Disney’s love for his wife and his passion for steam locomotives.

The Lilly Belle’s rich history includes being put out of service in 2010 at the Strasburg Railroad workshop in Pennsylvania, where it was rebuilt with a new boiler. It returned to service in 2016 and is a crowd favorite. It is one of four steam locomotives at Disney World. The Lilly Belle features a green cab with a green boiler jacket, green flags, and red wheels. It takes approximately 20 minutes to complete its 1.5-mile loop around the Magic Kingdom, with stops at Main Street, Frontierland, and Storybook Circus/Fantasyland.
